MSMF Open Position:

Mike Shane Memorial Fund (MSMF) is a non-profit organization (501(c)3) originally dedicated to funding remote second opinions for individuals and families affected by cholangiocarcinoma. Cholangiocarcinoma is an often aggressive cancer diagnosis that took the life of our namesake, Mike Shane. The MSMF strives to provide hope and options that may extend or enhance the quality of life for those impacted by this disease.

Position Overview

We are seeking a compassionate and capable Managing Director to lead our organization. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the challenges faced by those affected by life threatening diseases, along with at least a cursory background in fund-raising, grant writing, and nonprofit management. This role requires a dynamic individual who can effectively communicate with the board, leverage a strong network for the benefit of the foundation, and drive our mission forward. As a part-time position with the potential for growth, this is a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in the lives of many.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

Provide visionary leadership to advance the foundation's mission, strategic objectives, and values. Work closely with the Board of Directors to refine and implement the strategic plan while ensuring that the budget, staff, and priorities align with the foundation's core mission.

 

Fundraising & Development

Lead and expand our fundraising initiatives to secure and grow donations from individuals, foundations, corporations, and government sources. Utilize strong grant writing skills to identify and pursue opportunities. Leverage personal and professional networks to increase funding opportunities.
 

Board Communication
Maintain open and effective communication with the Board of Directors. Provide timely and accurate information to enable the Board to make informed decisions.
 

Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with all foundation stakeholders, including patients, families, donors, community leaders, and partners. Demonstrate empathy and understanding in all interactions, especially with individuals diagnosed with aggressive or terminal cancer.

 

Operational Management
Oversee the foundation's operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, service, and cost-effective management of resources. Evaluate and improve operational and financial performance.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in a related  management role, preferably in a health-related field.

  • Ability to engage in fundraising and grant writing.

  • Ability to build a network within the philanthropic, health, and/or health research communities.

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire a wide range of stakeholders.

  • Empathy and understanding for individuals and families affected by disease.

  • Strategic thinking and leadership skills, with the ability to drive the foundation's mission.

  • Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in a health related field, Nonprofit Management, Business Administration or similar field preferred.
